Pharmacy in Four-Wheel Drive

#TEDxCK 2016 Talk

Did you know that pharmacy is much more than counting and dispensing pills? While one may think they know what a pharmacist does for a living, they may be in for a surprise to learn about potential opportunities that exist within this profession. Heather will reflect on the lessons learned from the adventures of a primary care pharmacist who spends her days providing home visits in the community and aims to inspire health care practitioners to always consider a patient’s perception and realistic abilities when making treatment decisions, in the form of reality-based medicine.

About Heather

Heather was born and raised in Northern Ontario, in the beautiful community of New Liskeard. Her desire to pursue a career in health care has taken her to Laurentian University in Sudbury, and then to the University of Waterloo, where she was a member of the first class in the brand new School of Pharmacy and maintains a faculty connection as an Adjunct Clinical Professor . She completed pharmacy residency training at the Windsor Regional Hospital and has since spent time working in community and hospital pharmacy, as well as a small experience in telepharmacy.

Currently, Heather fulfills the role of Clinical Pharmacist and Case Manager with the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team. Through a wide variety of experiences, she is on a mission to learn as much as she can about the profession of pharmacy, in order to find creative ways to enhance the health care system.

Heather firmly believes that you must be the change you wish to see in the world, and strives to live each day to the fullest. Outside of professional commitments, she loves to spend time outdoors and in the arena with her husband and two boys, Brandon and Bryce.
